Walk 4...

College Valley and Border Ridge. 13 km (8 miles); 330m(1072 feet) of ascent; 5 hours View Mapduration. Meet at Wooler Car Park or at the start of the walk.

This walk combines spectacular valley views with distant views across Scotland. Early on we walk up Great Hetha hill fort to get a full length view of the College Valley towards the Cheviot at 815m (2 690 feet) the highest hill in the range. Other hillforts are easily picked out and we will briefly consider the archaeological evidence that helps us make sense of these constructions. We descend into Trowupburn, a smaller valley before our ascent to the Border Ridge which is the boundary between Scotland and England. The distinctive Eildon Hills of Melrose are clearly visible. We then come 'off track' into Open Access land following a sheep trail to another hill fort as we descend to the point at which we started the walk.
