Cheviot Hills...

The Cheviot Hills straddle the border between England and Scotland roughly midway between Newcastle and Edinburgh. The famous Hadrian's Wall is to the south of these hills with some of the best stretches just west of Newcastle. The historic cities of Durham and York are approximately 60miles (100km) and 90 miles (150km) south of Wooler respectively. Edinburgh is about 50 miles (80km) north of Wooler. Map

Most people drive past these hills on their way North to Scotland but take a look at the slideshow of these hills and perhaps you will be tempted to visit them too. Why not take a day or two to explore these lovely hills?

The rounded hills of the Cheviots are around 400 millions years old and result from volcanic activity at that time. Subsequently they were scoured and smoothed by large ice sheets moving across the region.

The Northumberland National Park comprises some 405 square miles (1049 square km) of hills and valleys offering a sense of 'wilderness' and solitude to those who walk within them. On average there are only 2 people living within the park per square km. There are 1100 km (688 miles) of paths within the park.

The Cheviot Hills are a real delight and something very special for you to enjoy.
